Compact Disks are developed to hold about 700 megabytes of data, but they tend to be poorly constructed and flimsy. The polycarbonate plastic faces scratch very easily leading to an inability to read data, and the metal coating that stores data tends to flake off over time or even rot.
Digital Video Discs (DVDs) hold between 4.2 gigabytes of data and 8.5 gigabytes of data (for a dual layer disc). These discs are subject to similar failures and scratches that standard CDs are, though they tend to be be more rugged.
By far, the greatest loss of disc data comes from scratching the read surface. Cleaning the disc may help to read the difficult data, but this doesn't always work. There are also more severe problems like disc rot, when the foil surface corrodes and flakes off, or a scratch to the foil surface itself. In these cases, data written to the missing area cannot be recovered but it can often be reconstructed using other data on the disk. In very rare cases, multiple bad copies of a disk exist- these bad copies can actually be merged to create one working disc!
I will recover every bit of the savable data from your CD or DVD and burn it to a fresh high quality disc for you. If you need your data immediately, I can set up a secure transfer in a matter of seconds so you can download your data over the internet.
My CD recovery service is available to anyone in the continental United States. The cost to recover a data CD is $49, and the cost to recover a data DVD is $59.
